Halloween is tonight, and there’s plenty to play: a big new Resident Evil, live Halloween events in several multiplayer games, and good options for phones and for anyone who doesn’t want to be too scared. Here are the best picks, sorted by the kind of night you’re having.

Quick picks

  • Biggest new scare: Resident Evil Requiem

  • With friends tonight: Phasmophobia

  • On your phone: DREDGE or Five Nights at Freddy’s

  • Spooky, not scary: Luigi’s Mansion 3

  • Only a couple of hours: The Mortuary Assistant

How we picked: we compared 2026 Halloween round-ups and checked event dates against developer announcements and news reports. We haven’t played everything here, and platforms and prices change, so check your store page before you buy.

The best new horror of 2026

  • Resident Evil Requiem: released in February 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 and PC. GameCentral calls it one of the best Resident Evil games ever, with two protagonists, Grace and Leon, balancing tense survival horror with big action moments. It tops several 2026 Halloween lists.

  • Silent Hill: Townfall: released September 24, 2026, and named the best psychological horror pick in one Halloween round-up.

  • Crisol: Theater of Idols: on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. GameCentral calls it one of the best survival horror games of the year.

  • Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake: on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 and PC. A ghost story and the pick for best ghost horror this year.

With friends tonight

  • Phasmophobia: 1 to 4 players on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. You hunt ghosts using voice chat, and the ghost can hear you. Its Crimson Eye Halloween event runs until November 1.

  • Lethal Company: up to 4 players, PC only. Chaotic and funny, with jump scares.

  • R.E.P.O.: up to 6 players, PC only. You drag fragile valuables out of haunted buildings, and the physics turn every job into chaos.

  • Dead by Daylight: four survivors against one killer, on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch. Its Haunted by Daylight event started October 13.

  • Halloween: The Game: one player is Michael Myers and four are Haddonfield civilians, on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It came out in September 2026 and also has a solo story mode and offline bots.

  • The Outlast Trials: 1 to 4 players on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. It’s the most disturbing game here, with plenty of gore, so skip it for a group that just wants a fun night.

  • Among Us: 4 to 15 players on PC, consoles and mobile. The best choice for a big group.

Live Halloween events

Dates are as reported on October 22. Check in the game before you plan around them.

  • Fortnite: Fortnitemares has run since October 1, with Five Nights at Freddy’s, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Beetlejuice and The Purge on the island.

  • Phasmophobia: Crimson Eye, October 8 to November 1.

  • Dead by Daylight: Haunted by Daylight, from October 13 for about three weeks.

  • Marvel Rivals: All Hallow’s Glow from October 16, then Night of Illusions from October 29.

  • GTA Online: Halloween week, reported by fan sites as October 1 to November 4.

  • Steam Scream V: Steam’s Halloween festival, October 26 to November 2.

On your phone

Prices and availability vary by store and region.

  • Five Nights at Freddy’s: a paid classic on Android and iOS.

  • DREDGE: on Android and iOS. It starts as a quiet fishing game and turns dark.

  • Limbo: on Android. Dark and misty, and it relies on atmosphere more than jump scares.

  • Dead by Daylight Mobile: asymmetric horror on your phone.

  • Granny and The Baby in Yellow: both free, for quick scares.

Spooky, but not too scary

  • Luigi’s Mansion 3: a ghost-hunting adventure on Nintendo Switch that’s good for casual and family play.

  • Costume Quest: a kid-friendly Halloween adventure.

  • Goosebumps: Terror in Little Creek: another pick for younger players.

  • Graveyard Keeper: run a graveyard in a management game with a spooky mood and little real fear.

If you’re short on time

  • We Never Left: about 30 to 60 minutes.

  • The Mortuary Assistant: about two hours on a first playthrough, longer if you chase every ending.

  • Visage: about three hours.

Completion times vary with how you play.

How to choose

  • Group size: four or fewer opens up most co-op games. With five or six, try R.E.P.O. or Dead by Daylight. For seven or more, play Among Us.

  • Platform: Lethal Company and R.E.P.O. are PC only. Phasmophobia and Dead by Daylight are also on consoles.

  • How scared you want to be: Resident Evil Requiem or The Outlast Trials for real fear, Luigi’s Mansion 3 or Graveyard Keeper for atmosphere without dread.

  • Time: pick a short game if you want to finish tonight.
